Orb BR (PS3) Review

Orb BR is a product that slipped right by me until I saw it rated as number one in this month’s Game Informer magazine.  So, what is it?  Orb BR is a $20 Blu Ray disc that can stream Netflix, Hulu, Amazon VOD, YouTube, Comedy Central, CBS, ABC and other sites straight to your PS3.  Of course, subscriptions/accounts are needed for Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon.  However, if you don’t have any of those, your $20 is still well spent for all of the other content you still have free access to!

For Orb BR to work, you must first have a PC running the free Orb Caster program, which can be found here.  In addition, you can also download the mini-controller program from the same site.  I prefer using the mini controller with my Apple device.  There is a free “Orb Controller” app on both the App store and Android Market place.

Now, you have Orb Caster running and your Controller at the ready.  You can now pop in your Orb BR disc and enjoy your many streaming options.  You can find shows from Thundercats to South Park.  Pretty wide selection, wouldn’t you say?

For $20, you will not find a greater PS3 investment.  I mean, this is a one-time fee you’re paying for endless 720p and 1080p streaming.  My only complaint is when I just want to lay down and watch something, but instead I have to get up, walk all the way over to my games and movies, open the case, and I even have to put the disc in the console.  So much effort for the year 2011, but I’m used to it by now with my vast collection of games and movies.
