Kyuiin Review (PS Store Japanese Import)

Kyuiin is the latest Japanese import game to be brought to the PlayStation Store, showing up on Tuesday. This import is perfect for those who don’t speak Japanese, as the controls are simple and you can figure out the plot quite easily with the cutscenes. So, let’s get started with this review!
First up, the plot is quite simple. A boy and his little sister are cleaning his room. He then opens up a book. Little did he expect a fairy to pop out and ask him for help. He is then brought into the fairy’s world with the help of his magical vacuum. That’s right, your transportation in this world is a vacuum cleaner!
The gameplay is simply flying around the screen while dodging obstacles and firing sucking up enemies, and of course, shooting them out. Right when this starts to get repetitive, a boss battle appears out of nowhere. When it gets too easy, you reach for a bite to eat, and the enemies attack pattern changes! Okay, maybe the food thing was just me. But, I was hungry and the enemies tricked me…
When you first begin the game, it will be so easy it will almost bore you. But then, the game will continue to get harder and harder. Mix this in with some careless mistakes and you’re done for. You have to be especially vigilant or pay the price in the later levels. And, it also helps to use your “special weapon.”
With every enemy you suck up, your special meter begins to fill up. This meter can then be used to blast everything in front of you. Add this in with a little maneuvering and your foes don’t stand a chance. As for bosses, it doesn’t take them out as easily as numerous weak enemies. But, it does do some good damage on them.
Should you want to share your good time, there is a two player option. That means be greedy with the powerups, but share the health kits carefully. Health kits are important since you can only take a few hits before losing, and powerups upgrade your attack drastically.
With simple controls and addicting gameplay, you won’t be setting down Kyuiin for a while. It is only $5.99 on the PS Store. And, should you need any help with anything, don’t worry, this is a Japanese title and MonkeyPaw Games has a website to help all of it’s customers. Simply click here to see their Kyuiin page.
