NeverDead First Impressions

PDFPrintE-mail

neverdeadNeverDead is Konami’s latest release. After playing it for a few hours I want to like it but I am still scratching my head. It seems the game is made of up one part DMC, one part Shadows of the Damned, and one part endless escort quest.

NeverDead has some interesting concepts. Players play as a demon hunter named Bryce who is rocking dual pistols and a sword. He is immortal and cannot die. But his limbs can be separated from his body which then requires players to roll to the parts and reattach them. This is used in puzzles, but during combat it can be very frustrating. It looks like the limbs can also be used as exploding weapons.

Within the first few hours I managed to get Bryce's detached head stuck so I couldn’t reattach it to my body. That was awkward. The action and combat is holding my attention for now but I’m worried that game might become stale at later stages. Luckily, the escort mission of protecting Bryce's partner Arcadia Maximille is easy. She is capable of defending herself and just doesn’t wander around aimlessly. Hopefully this upgrade system lets me upgrade my weapons and the abilities I have already upgraded are useful. One tip for all you NeverDead players is to use the melee combat as it is far more effective. Bryce has a hard time hitting things he shoots with. So far I would say this game deserves a 2.5 out of 5, who knows it might get better. I'm also curious about the multiplayer.

I am curious about the screen shot! His jacket looks fully sewn on his regular arm, yet detached and still in the right place on his severed one? I know we can't have naked body parts all over the place, but really?

I know. I am referring to his clothing detaching perfectly with it.
