The Girl on Fire - iOS Review

The Girl On Fire game is a cross-media promotion for the Hunger Games film, which released in theaters on Friday, March 23. This free iOS game features Katniss trying to avoid capture by the Capitol. The old maxim holds up - you get what you pay for. Note: Disappointingly, Katniss is not actually on fire in this game.
Although less than adequate freebie games are what make up the majority of the iOS marketplace, this game will actually appeal to casual gamers, who are also fans of the young adult book series, The Hunger Games. In The Girl on Fire, you play as Katniss who must run, infinitely I might add, from trackerjackers who will poison her and lead to capture by the Capitol, as well as other environments, which differ in aesthetic and enemy types, but have effectively the same mechanics. By swiping up and down you can move Katniss between an upper and lower track to avoid the poison that trackerjackers shoot at her and by tapping on these attackers Katniss will fire her bow at them with deadly accuracy. Having a local leaderboard would seem like a given, but the only leaderboard is a worldwide one.
Trackerjacker attacks become increasingly more difficult, but the mechanics don't change. I cannot say that this is a great game, but it hits it's mark in appealing to those who are easily entertained, including myself.
