Baseball Superstars II Free for Android

I've mentioned before that Baseball Superstars on Android is my favorite Gamevil series of games. I don't even enjoy baseball but something about this arcadey simulation hits the sweet spot for me. And now Gamevil has just released BS II on the Market for free and it really shines.

There are seven different modes to play: My League, Season, Exhibition, Homerun Race, Tournament, Mission and Match Mode. The obvious ones (Season, Exhibition, Homerun Race, Tournament) are what their names imply and gameplay in any mode is a blast.

But where this game really struts it's stuff is the My League mode. After creating a character and choosing to play as either Pitcher or Batter the story drops you into the 9th inning of the first game of the season. Down by 2 with the bases loaded, can you win it as your rookie? Regardless of whether the game is won or lost the story moves forward and presents many RPG elements along the way. Character customization, gear upgrades, new skills, and dialogue branches are some of the ways that this sports title brings the RPG.

Besides the outstanding gameplay there are a few other features that stand out as something to draw players in, like the writing, which is fantastically humorous. Not just the dialogue between the characters and the NPC (female) characters encountered in "outings" but also internal monologues and interludes. There is a scene where the player receives a smartphone and decides to play games. The choices for games? Zenonia 3 or Baseball Superstars II. After playing the game and highlighting the new and improved features the character says, "Nice job Gamevil." This kind of meta humor has always resonated with me. After that first at bat and resulting win or loss the coach presents you with a list of goals to accomplish by the end of the first season and you get to choose three of them to attempt. If you do manage to complete them then you will be handsomely rewarded with G points (a special type of currency for special items) which is pretty hard to come by in large quantities.

Baseball Superstars II is the latest entry in a long running series of fantastic baseball games created by Gamevil and the changes they have made have really pushed the game to be that much more excellent. To top it all off, this game is free. To quote Kyu Lee, VP of Gamevil USA, "This shows the level of commitment we have in transitioning to our new business model, and we believe this will be a great gift for every single baseball fan out there." So what are you waiting for? This is the "Best Version of the Baseball Superstars Series" yet.
