More Needed Remakes

The industry has been making games for more than a decade, and many of the games we get nowadays are sequels or remakes, but not all deserving games are remade or given a sequel. Here's a list of games that fell through the cracks.

- System Shock -

Before you say Bioshock was a remake, let me say that it doesn't count. If the industry can produce three Doom games they should be able to give us one more System Shock game. I played this game relentlessly in high school, it was one of the most interesting FPS games I had ever played and it still is. A real mash up of RPG and FPS made this game unique, and the story is really creepy. Some people may say Dead Space is the closest to a new System Shock that we'll get, although Dead space is an excellent game, it can't compare to what System Shock was.

- Maniac Mansion -

I could list every late 80s and early 90s Lucas Arts game on this list, but only one game is sacred among point-and-click adventure nerds: Maniac Mansion with its crazy scientists, eerie tentacles, and group of college students is an excellent example of a killer story that deserves a true remake. Since there was a new Monkey Island remake for XBLA, many people are wondering if we will see more HD remakes of Lucas Arts games?

- Earthworm Jim -

A wise cracking worm in a space suit shoot 'em up and insane music by Tommy Tallarico... Of course we need a sequel. A true classic for Sega Genesis, and people have been crying for a sequel for years, so why isn't there one yet?

- Streets of Rage -

From shoot 'em up to beat 'em up, Streets of Rage delivered all the clichéd 90s in one cartridge. It's time to lay the smack down on some silly street gangs, pick your character, blond haired blue eyed surfer who knows kung-fu, token black boxer, or the kick boxing kangaroo. This would be an epic co-op game for XBL or PSN. Another great Genesis era game left for the ages.

- Shenmue -

Not so much a remake as a sequel; we need an ending. Does Ryu finally kill Lan Di and get revenge for his father? We may never know. Shenmue originally started with the dreamcast, but when the system died so did the chances of the game ever being completed.

Here's a few more mentionable games deserving remakes or sequels:

  • Eternal Darkness
  • Jade Empire
  • BattleToads
  • Populous
  • The Dig
