Must haves of this fall

mw3The fall is the best and worst time to be a gamer, and this year isn’t an exception. There are so many good games to pick from but our wallets suffer so much. Gamers must pick and choose their must haves of the AAA titles from September to November.

The list of games coming out this fall is long: Resistance 3; Deus Ex: Human Revolution; Dead Island; Modern Warfare 3; Assassin’s Creed: Revelations; Saints Row: The Third; Gears of War 3; Dark Souls; Batman: Arkham City; Skyrim; Battlefield 3; Uncharted 3; Zelda Skyward Sword as well as many others. So how do gamers pick and choose what they want?

gears32Consider the must haves by splitting up the multi player games and the single player games. Are your friends picking up multi player games? If so, then join them by getting Resistance 3, MW3, Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3, or Uncharted 3; which are the best choices. It might be in your best interest to get one or two of these games as soon as they come out. If you are more of a lone gamer who enjoys the single player campaigns, then Skyrim, Saints Row, Dark Souls, Silent Hill Downpour, one of the Resident Evil HD remakes, or Deus Ex: HR might be a better day one purchase for you. If you're feeling retro, the fall releases cover this genre with games like Zelda Skyward Sword, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland and Sonic Generations; any of these would be an ideal fit.

What about if you are more of a handheld gamer? If so, then the 3DS has some good games coming out during the late summer and fall as well. Starfox 64 3D comes out in September and from what I’ve seen, it looks like so much fun. Kirby’s Mass Attack and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 are also coming out on the DS. Nintendo is also delivering Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land.

uc2.1As for myself I’ll get Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3 on day one. I really want Saints Row: The Third, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, and Batman: Arkham City, but not badly enough to run out and spend $60 on them. I’m intrigued by Skyrim but I don't have 100 hours to dump into an epic RPG. I usually enjoy games like MW3 but I think I’ll get BF3 to scratch my multi player itch. Who knows, if I wait a few weeks I may be able to pick up a few of these games on Goozex, or slightly used from Amazon. Deus Ex has only been out a few weeks and gamers have already seen new copies of the game selling for as low as $35. So if you can hold out, it is in your best interest.

This fall is shaping up to have some of the best releases in the last few years. Its going to be tough for gamers to find something they don't like. It's also going to be tough to figure out what games you need to get right away and what ones you can wait on.

Editors' Note: My own personal strategy is to buy Skyrim on day one and put everything else on my Goozex request list. I already used early access tokens for Rage, Dark Souls and Gears of War 3, so I'm covered if I get an itch to play a shooter. By playing a long game with a seemingly endless campaign like Skyrim and Dark Souls, the other games will eventually arrive via Goozex or will drop significantly in price as the new year rolls around. There will definitely not be a summer slow down in 2012 as I'll be catching up on the fall and Holiday releases.
