5 reasons why Skyrim will kick ass

PDFPrintE-mail

With The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim due for release on November 11th, I decided to review some of the things that make me most excited for Skyrim, so without any more delay, the list.

  1. A new engine: Seriously, thank you Bethesda for putting down the Gamebryo engine finally. The new engine dubbed, "The Creation Engine" will provide new enhancements like "Improved" draw distances, Sharper Textures, Dynamic Shadows for all object in game, an Improved 3rd person camera, and the option for a HUD-less first-person view.

“The big things for us were to draw a lot of stuff in the distance so we have a really sophisticated level of detail, more so than what we've had in the past for how things stream in and how detail gets added to them as they get closer to the camera,” says creative director Todd Howard.
  2. Dual Wielding: As if one sword wasn't dangerous enough Bethesda will implement the ability to dual wield weapons, magic, or a combination of both. I can only speak for myself but this has to be one of the coolest new features for Skyrim.
  3. Dragons: Yes Dragons! They're really in the game! Seeing as how the main character is a "Dragonkin," a group of dragon hunters, it sounds like there will be some awesomely epic battles with dragons (Unlike Oblivion) And the fact that dragons are reportedly able to attack cities make for an interesting game play element.
  4. Perks: I'm not sure I want to see what "Bloody mess" will look like with an axe, but still a Fallout-esque Perks system will bring new levels of customization to your character in TES: Skyrim.
  5. Beards: You heard me, BEARDS! Come on, how cool is that? No longer will players have to be baby faced barbarians, now you can add a chin-muffler, Soup-Saver, or a Wandering Jim to your blood crazed warrior.

As always we at Goozernation look forward to good gaming discussions, so we invite you to tell us what excites you most about The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

I cant wait for Skyrim, and these are certainly five reasons why I am readily hyped. I would have to add that the Radiant story aspect of the engine interests me the most, with the engine working for your style of play the replay value will skyrocket, and I must have put in over 500 hours on oblivion and still counting. I can't wait to slay a dragon while sporting a handle bar mustache. :D

the only ones that really did it for me were 4 and 1 of course, I think it's really gonna work.

On the other hand, beards are very 2010...

Three things that would make Skyrim perfect to me:
1. Good Physics.
2. Destroyable (destructable?) enviroment.
3. Dragons.
Why these three? Because that means I could fight a dragon on top of a cliff (a BIG dragon), kill it, push it off the cliff and watch as it levels the town/forest/other dragon at the bottom of said cliff. There are no words to describe how much I would love that feature.

one of the most Important things they need to work on is Updating the Animations and Hiring more Voice actors... mainly the Animations though :)

I heard they were working on enhancing the player animation/movement so that if you ever decide to play in third person (weirdo) it doesn't look like such a mess.

Are those actual gameplay screens? If so, I'm already excited. Looks spectacular... :-)

Here's for hoping it'll feel a little more alive than Oblivion as well. As the comment above said, Oblivion just felt stiff in the animations.

those screens are from the Skyrim GameInformer Issue, so I believe they are all in engine screenshots. This screenshot is a confirmned in game shot of Skyrim. http://img.metro.co.uk/i/pix/2011/01/18/article-1295373823112-0CD12E2E000005DC-911362_636x300.jpg

Why are we already hyping up Skyrim?

There are still at least 2 AAA titles developed by Bethesda that are set to drop before TES5. And personally I am VERY pumped for both Brink and Rage.

I tried to get into both Morrowwind and Oblivion and just couldn't. I got too bored by myself.

Odd that this didn't seem to occur when playing Fallout 3. Being alone seemed to fit the setting more.
