Why Naughty Dog Can’t End Uncharted Yet

After the easter egg for “The Last of Us” was found in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 3, we all started to wonder what it meant of them.  After Spike’s Video Game Awards we all found out.  Knowing that Naughty Dog has been working on The Last of Us for quite some time now, we all must wonder what direction the studio will take.  Will all of the ND team shift its focus on that one project for the time being?  I have my doubts.

Before the VGAs aired, I was sure to go through my backlog of games and finish Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception on Crushing and get the few remaining treasures before hitting 101.  This made me think back to my Uncharted marathon that led up to Uncharted 3’s release.  That is when I realized something; I forgot to rewatch The Eye of Indra.  After playing all three of the Uncharted games in such a small window of time, how could I possibly forget the comic book movie Uncharted: The Eye of Indra?  After reviewing the miniseries, I began thinking about the future of Uncharted and how The Eye of Indra will impact it.

First of all, The Eye of Indra featured Eddy Raja from the first Uncharted game.  There was also reference to “Club Raja” via billboard signs in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.  Coincidence?   Maybe, but very unlikely.  Why name the club “Raja” right after the first game, which sported that (in)famous name?  Eddy even made a cameo in an Uncharted 3 coop mission.  Obviously, Naughty Dog has not forgotten their roots.

This being said, The Eye of Indra left us with a major cliffhanger.  Eddy’s sister, Rika, made off with Drake’s treasures after holding him up at gunpoint.  Drake vowed that he would find Rika one day, and she agreed that he would try.  How could Naughty Dog possibly walk away from this without a sequel?

Before Uncharted 3 was revealed, I fully expected the plot to revolve around Drake and Rika.  I was surprised to see them take Uncharted 3 in a different direction.  But, I wouldn’t be surprised if the ND team is piecing together a plot for Uncharted 4 to be revealed in a year or so, and I also wouldn’t be surprised if it brought us right back to this forgotten tale.
