Gaming on the Cheap - GOG.com

PDFPrintE-mail

gog.comI'm one of those budget conscious gamers that generally waits a few months before buying new games. There are a few ways around this: Goozex, of course, is my first choice (using points instead of cash is very pleasing to my wallet), Amazon often has great deals for pre-orders or recently released games, Steam is always awesome and pretty cheap, Best Buy will have some good deals too (last month I got Oblivion, Duke Nukem, and Child of Eden for $80), but GOG.com is where I go when I want classic PC games for dirt cheap.

This weekend (until Monday) gog.com is having a deal on all Might & Magic and Heroes of Might & Magic games. All games in the series are half off when purchased together. That's a ton of gameplay for $36. That's right, $36 for all 8 Heroes Chronicles titles, Heroes I, Heroes II: Gold Edition (comes with expansion), Heroes III: Complete Edition (two expansions), Heroes IV Complete (two expansions), Might and Magic 6-Pack (1 through 6), Might and Magic VII, and Might and Magic VIII. That's 20 games, and 5 expansions. Quite the deal.

Both these series hold some fond memories for me and the gameplay stands the test of time, especially for the Heroes titles. Turn Based Strategy games never really lose their luster and the different mythologies and creatures embraced in the games just set them apart from others in the same vein.

Even if you don't feel like spending $36 dollars you can grab any number of them for 40% off. Say you only want the two most recent games (Heroes IV and Might and Magic VIII) it will only cost you $10. Of course the odds are you're going to love them so much you'll buy the rest anyway.

If you're not at all interested in the Might and Magic series you should still head over to GOG.com and check out their library of games, they have quite a few and they're all reasonably priced, some are even free. And all games are DRM free. That means that once you buy a game it's yours to put on as many computers as you want, no cd key hassle or anything. There is also a metric ton of supplemental content packed into each purchase; manuals, avatars, wallpapers, maps, and soundtracks come with quite a few games. Just remember that these are classics. Ah, Good Old Gaming (that's what gog stands for).
