Games to Begin the New Year

Silent Hill HD CollectionThe first Tuesday of 2012 has arrived, and so the new gaming season is on.  It looks to be a great year, with titles from Mass Effect 3 to Grand Theft Auto V and so much in between.   But, it’s best to take one step at a time.  Below are four of the hottest releases for January, and each are great ways to kick off the gaming year.

Silent Hill HD Collection

Silent Hill is one of the best survival horror video game series to date.  The Silent Hill HD Collection, hitting shelves on January 24, seeks to revive two of its gems.  I am excited for this collection because I have yet to play Silent Hill 2.  There have been several times I almost bought it, but I chose to wait for the HD version.  The delays are over, and the frights will soon begin.  If you’re looking for a nice gaming headset to enhance the experience, I recommend the Wireless Stereo Headset.  If you dislike this headset, or play on other consoles, the PX21 is a great alternative.  Not only does it work with your PS3, but 360 and PC as well.

NeverDead

Never Dead

NeverDead sounds like a breath of fresh air.  A creative new theory has been implemented rather than following the worn trails other games leave.  What is the new idea used in NeverDead?  Well, you can never die.  No life bar, no health regeneration, no hiding while on the brink of death.  This game is either taking a dive in the bad game zone, or is going to be remembered and idolized in the future.  But one thing’s for sure, I commend Konami Rebellion Developments and Konami for taking a risk and trying something new.

Soul Calibur V

Soul Calibur

The next installment of Soul Calibur will be available this month as well.  Soul Calibur is a great fighting game series, and this sequel invites Ezio Auditore from the Assassin’s Creed series to join in on the bloodshed.  That alone is enough for me to eye the game.  I think I found my favorite fighter already!

Final Fantasy XIII-2

final fantasy

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the follow up to 2010’s Final Fantasy XIII.  I have yet to play any next generation Final Fantasy games.  I loved FF VII on the PlayStation One.  However, VIII was a different story.  While posing a challenge, FF Tactics on the PSP was a great title.  There are so many Final Fantasy games it’s nearly impossible to keep up with the series.  But, the hardcore fans will love this release.  And, if you happen to be new to the franchise, Final Fantasy XIII-2 may be kind to you.
