Don't Buy the Batcave Just Yet (Xbox 360)

arkham-city-batcave-4If you are like me, chomping at the bit to get any information on a new piece of DLC for Batman: Arkham City, you are most likely eager to fly into the Batcave for the new challenge map. At the same time, you might want to get the Iceberg Lounge and the Joker's Carnival DLC as well. Ryan Johnson of GoozerNation gives a heads up to downloaders who may need to have a bit of patience.

I was interested in a Day One Download of the new Batcave challenge map via the Challenge Map Pack. I went into the Marketplace, and saw it on sale for 240 MSP. When reading the description, however, it states:

"Download the Batman Challenge Map Pack for free! This pack contains three all new challenge maps: The Joker’s Carnival, Iceberg Lounge and The Batcave. These challenge maps are playable as Batman and any of the downloadable playable characters Catwoman, Night Wing and Robin. Note: Catwoman, Nightwing and Robin each sold separately."

I was concerned about the "free" word, so I tweeted up @XboxSupport (a great gang of people) who said "We are looking into it." A quick Twitter search showed that I am not the only one with this situation.

A quick click will allow this item to be purchased with points, but I would be wary if they are "looking into it" that it could reset for free later today or soon. Of course, they could also just delete the "for free" words. 240 MSP is a steal for this as is, I'm sure.

This problem may or may not affect you. I don't have the full power of the Xbox Website to know who this reaches. Just wanted to save you a few points. Our chief editor will tell you the woes of trying to "return" downloaded media for refunds.

So steady your hands on that Batarang-shaped controller, and try to hold off a bit until this is cleared up! After all, you need those points to get the new 1200 point Arkham Package including all the previous DLC if you haven't got it yet. Need something cool to bide the time? Download the free Batman Inc. skin for now, and satiate that "buy now" trigger finger.

UPDATE: The Xbox Website has taken out the "free" wording within the text while I have been submitting this article. 240 MSP is still a steal, however fellow GN writer Mark Del Rio states that he just got the package for free on his PC edition of the game. Will they give it free to PC and not to consoles? I will keep researching and find out for you!

UPDATE: I just got a tweetback from @XboxSupport: "You may have to purchase the content." So us 360 users may get stiffed.

UPDATE: Just checked PSN and it's not listed there. Below is a screenshot from the Game For Windows Live page showing that it came out today and that it's free.

FINAL UPDATE: @arkhamcitynews, the official Arkham City Twitter account, officially released this article. Within, they announce that the package will be available for 240 MSP or $2.99 for PSN as well as Games for Windows Live. I have tried to contact @arkhamcitynews, @TheRealKevinButler, and @AskPlayStation for more info to no avail.

One wonders how it was free on GFWL earlier today, and it also said "free" on the info at XBL, but without comment it has now gone to pay across the board.

For now, the topic seems closed, and all are hush-hush. If more info arises, I will report on it.

I just got it for free on the PC. XBOX 360 users are getting stiffed. Also, it's not avaliable on the PS3 version yet.

Same thing happened for Bastion, they put out DLC that was free everywhere except Xbox because Microsoft won't let people put out free content.
