We all know that movies do not translate well into a game. Planet 51 The Game is no exception. The game allows you to play as the aliens and the astronaut. It has rewards which include videos, vehicles, albums, and comics that you can collect. The levels in the game range from cutting grass, which can feel like doing chores, to exciting challenges such as chase missions and races. Unfortunately, there is no single player co-op, but there is a multiplayer mode that gives two players the ability to play versus with one another. Another thing that I did not like is that it has lots and lots of loading time, which may be a bother to the youngster. Graphic are colorful and the animation are not half bad. Several surrounding objects such as fences and water hydrates can be destructible.
Though I enjoyed the story to try and get Chuck, The Astronaut, back home. The mechanics are badly designed, which weaken the experience. Steering the car seems at time unresponsive. The loading time comes up often, which can be very annoying as the same exact screen of an eyeball rolling around that pop up. Also find it very tiring that the game forces the player to repeatedly tap the x button to run, which requires mashing every time one wants to get around when on foot. Other noticeable flaws in the game include the voice dialogues that are out of sync.
Even with these minor flaws my little nephew who played it with me had fun going through the game. The game is broken down into missions and because the missions always have an arrow showing where to go it makes it fairly easy for children to complete.
Meanwhile, the game may offer little to Hardcore gamers. It serves its purpose to entertain the younger gamers. This game may not be up there competing against games like Bioshock 2, it does deliver enjoyment that you can have with your youngster.
If you have children in your household, I recommend that you give it a try.
