Spring Cleaning the Wall of Shame

It's that time of year. Flowers are blooming, birds are singing and gamers are procrastinating. If you're anything like me, you have a pile of games that you've been meaning to finish, but really never found the time. Part of being a hard core gamer is always moving to the next big thing. This mentality lends itself to an ever growing wall of shame that seems unconquerable, but you're going to have to get through your games sooner or later, and what better time to do it than now? I'll jump if you jump. Here are five games that I've been meaning to get out of the way. Some are more embarrassing than others, so bear with me.

1. King Kong - Xbox 360: Ok, go ahead and laugh. This game isn't just bad. It's awful. It's probably one of the only titles I've ever played where a game breaking glitch forced me to start the game over while already having completed a fair portion of the story, but for some reason (I'll be honest, that reason is probably achievements) I feel compelled to complete it. The game's puzzles are terribly repetitive and poorly thought out, and the first person action isn't much better, but I do enjoy the bits where you get to play as King Kong. They redeem the game a bit in my eyes.

2. Final Fantasy XIII - Xbox 360: Yes, it's a recent game, but still, it seems like any time I make a significant amount of progress, I again become distracted with another game. Perhaps that vicious cycle says something about the overall quality of the game, but still, being a long time Final Fantasy fan, it's something I'd love to be able to say I've completed. I'm currently about 16 hours into the game, which is near where most people claim the world opens up. That's good too, because I don't know how much longer I can stand these narrow walkways through the game's environments. The battle system is the one thing that's keeping me coming back for more at this point, though hopefully within the next few hours, the game will give me a few other reasons.

3. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - Nintendo Wii: The Silent Hill series has given me some of my most disturbing and fondest memories in my gaming history. I get scared really easily, and for me, that's all part of the fun. When I heard that the original Silent Hill was being re-imagined, I was excited. When I heard that it was getting positive reviews, I was ecstatic. When I tried it for myself and found that this was a title that actually justified its existence on the Wii, I was relieved. This game wouldn't have been the same without motion controls, and that's not something very many games can say. I loved the few hours I played of this game, but as is the case with so many other games I've played, I had to move on to other games before I was able to complete this. Now that a new entry in the Silent Hill series has been announced, I'm again remembering the one that I let slip away.

4. Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony - Xbox 360: Many say that Grand Theft Auto IV got better reviews than it deserved, and that may be the case, but if there's one thing that made me love this game, it's the story. I love tales of organized crime, and it's this game's plot that really pushed me to reach the end. Soon after I completed the main game, The Lost and the Damned came out. Again, I was in love with the story, and the gameplay was great fun as well. Once done with that, a bit of time passed (probably too much time), and finally The Ballad of Gay Tony was released. Though I purchased this on the day it was released, I never really spent the time with it that it deserved. Other open world games came out that simply did gameplay better than Grand Theft Auto IV ever did, so I was less interested in making the return to Liberty City. Now that we're in a bit of a release lull, at least for the next couple of weeks, now is a better time than ever to jump back in.

5. Call of Duty 2 - Xbox 360: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was the first game in the Call of Duty franchise that I ever bothered to play. After the Medal of Honor series, I was pretty burned out on World War II games, so when I heard that Infinity Ward was making a modern day shooter, I figured I'd finally give the series a try. I was definitely impressed, so from there, I wanted to check out the game's roots. I first beat Call of Duty 3, and wasn't really impressed, but realizing this was from another developer than Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, I decided to give Call of Duty 2 a shot. I got through a good chunk of it, but bigger and better things came along, and I never completed it. Though this game may not compare to the newer entries in the series, I'd still like to get it out of the way.

There you have it: my top five games on my wall of shame. What games have you been meaning to finish?
