Saints Row 2 was hailed as everything GTA IV was not and the critics raved about this game both good and bad. To this date Saints Row 2 (SR2) has sold nearly 5 million copies. Currently SR2 is at the perfect price on Goozex, which means the game is readily available through an instant match. This game is a steal and for someone who likes getting a lot of bang for their buck.

One of the best things about this game is that it doesn't take itself too seriously; the over the top customization and insane physics are great examples. Combine these elements with the tongue-in-cheek humor and the easy missions and gamers have got the perfect mold for open world games.

Thought GTA IV was bland? SR2 is all about customization: they took a page from GTA San Andreas and then took it further. I'm talking about customization of the main character's clothes, tattoos and facial hair, the taunts, the fighting style and the characters' personality: all can be changed, all at the drop of a hat, anytime in the game. The cribs and hideouts can be upgraded with new furniture and whatnot. Vehicles can be modded with NOS and hydraulics, which can be added to just about everything. The customization level is so deep it would take years to explain everything.

sr2Side (19K)There is drop in and out co-op, which is something more games need to have. Although it may be tough to find someone to play with these days, that shouldn't discourage gamers. Saints Row 2's side missions are a blast from hurling yourself in front of cars and bouncing off buildings for insurance fraud to a lookalike fight club to the one event I enjoyed the most: breaking up crowds of protesters and troublemakers using flamethrowers and hammers.

The game never feels like a chore and rewards players constantly from new customizations to new weapons. The duel wielding sub machine guns is a must. The game has a lot to offer outside of the single player story. But this game isn't perfect as there are a few flaws. Graphically the game looks very cartoonlike. The flying physics are terrible, for example, trying to land or fly the helicopter is a feat that can only be accomplished by gamers whose hand-eye coordination are nothing short of Han Solo's. The DLC was a joke and a waste of anyone's money. But what gamer cares about the little nitpicky things, this game is packed full of stuff to do and is a great way to fill the gap between the next AAA titles. Do yourself a favor and get Saints Row 2 and take the time to observe how open world games should be made.
