I had heard very little about Dead to Rights Retribution. I never played 2002's Dead to Rights--this new game is the remake--due to the fact I didn't own an Xbox or PS2 until late in their console lives. The game concept is not too shabby, if anything, Dead to Rights Retribution is one of those games you play to escape life or other more serious games. For example, if gamers have been slogging through Final Fantasy XIII for weeks and they're tired of RPG's, then Dead to Rights becomes a good alternative.
Dead Rights Retribution can be classified as a game to relax by, similar to 50 Cent Blood in the Sand. Here's another great example, rough day at the office? Fire up Dead to Rights and let the enemies pay for that TPS report you had to finish on Friday. In some ways, Dead to Rights Retribution is the kind of game all of us gamers can use.
The controls and camera take some getting used to as does the acting. But it's a decent brawler with a fair amount of variety and flash. The graphics appear a little dated, but at the same time it's a remake and it still looks good. For the most part, the game reminds of Final Fight 2 and 3, or more recently, Batman Arkham Asylum. The game has some great combos and finishing moves, which are a blast to execute on enemies. I also really like the use of bullet time, which is a nice acknowledgement to other games, and it's a video game concept that has really gone out of style recently.
The game feels like it belongs in an Arcade, as it is made by Namco, and in some ways I kept having flashbacks to Die Hard Arcade during the first few levels.
For now, this game seems to be a perfect escape from trying to get platinum trophies in several other more difficult games.
