Skate 3: A Buggy Fail

One could speculate that Skate 3 came out too early. The game, though it may have plenty of redeeming values, still lacks solid functionality. The game does work: you can accomplish challenges, set up your very own skate park, and perform dozens of tricks; ultimately though, the game falls short with too many frustrating bugs as the character falls over just about everything. The process from A to B is sometimes slow, so grab your board and just run. Jump a little too high however and you're bound to find yourself on the ground. Need to jump over a femur-high fence? Climbing or jumping over it is a chore, and you'll likely find yourself, you guessed it, on the ground again. These are only a few of the small frustrations that one will likely encounter during gameplay.

Skate3Side (30K) Other problems with Skate 3 are logging into a new challenge from the skate park. The game leaves you stuck inside the park with the objectives active until you warp to another location. Also, riding or walking one's skateboard over small areas of water will always leave you in it and having to respawn. Even with all of these problems, Skate 3 is a game with countless potential. The game has, as mentioned, a skate park that you can build with limitless imagination, a variety of challenges, free play to do whatever tricks your heart desires in many locations, and more.

The counter-production is perhaps the timing of the release. Presently, week-of-the-release shoppers and certain reviewers are spending their time frustrated with bugs and glitches and doing the job of quality assurance testers. These gamers should instead be going out and completing all of the amazing things that Skate 3 has to offer. This reviewer, after finding himself an 8 out of 10 on the agitated scale, realized that taunting and knocking down citizens were more fun than trying to search for the impossible-to-find location of the next objective.

In the end, Skate 3 fails to live up to the hype and its reputation. The game boasts creative humor, customizable characters, imaginative environments and countless other features, but it is the glitches and small annoying problems that keep individuals from experiencing all of the great features. With a decent patch, this brow-furrowing title could become a fun game with plenty of activities and environmental interactions. Only then can its potential finally be realized.
