Ipp's Top 5 Current Favorite Flash Games

Eric Ippolito, Associate Writer

March 2, 2010

There are just so many flash games out there in the big Internet world, so how does one find a good game without having to screen through them all? Well, that's where this review comes in. Below is a rundown of some awesome flash games for you to try. Don't miss out!

Endless Migration- #5
Close your eyes. Now imagine that you're no longer a person. In fact, you're not even a human. No, you're a goose. A goose with a large following of other geese trying to make it to the South--alive. There's no greater incentive than survival, and Endless Migration, created by HotAirRacoon, is a game where survival is the objective. There are countless goose-enemies such as planes, blimps, alien ships and helicopters (and you thought being a human was tough). But worry not about all the dangers, in Endless Migration, you'll have plenty of goose buddies to take most of the damage.

Basically, the object is to maintain a large "flying V" (Mighty Ducks reference not intended) for as long as possible without the primary goose (you) from becoming poultry soup in a turbine engine. Greater points are rewarded for length of time evading danger, and for gathering a maximum limit of goose-buddies. Now if you think that might become monotonous, let me inform you about the achievements. For every danger-do feat you accomplish, such as living long enough to see a jet fighter, or lasting 1 minute et cetera, you'll be rewarded special points that you can upgrade your goose abilities.

All in all, the game is very addicting and challenging at the same time. The music resembles cheesy in-flight music (which really makes sense) and the artwork is decent too. The downside however, is that the level of wonder usually wears off after all or most of the achievements have been acquired. It's a fun game in the end, and definitely a good way to waste some time if you're waiting for your wife (or mom) to finish grocery shopping. Overall, I rate it a 7 out of 10. (1 being pong, 10 being your favorite game ever.)

Enigmata #4
If you like flying, but don't like the idea of being a bird, or windshield goo, then try Enigmata, created by kidgamez. Enigmata is a very colorful and well-designed game with plenty of enemies to keep you entertained. You basically start the game off with the choice between three different ships, each having their own different strengths and weaknesses. After each level, you are able to save, and upgrade your ship with the money that you earned on the previous level or from saving up. There are all sorts of unique little weapons and additions that you can buy for your ship, as well as the option to buy every ship available.

Enigmata is a fun game overall but still tends to come up short in the creative arena. The game is basically a Galaga/Raptor (see ancient game archives) sort of game, but does not really do that much more to expound on the 2-dimensional scrolling fighter game. Despite this, the game does however offer enough of the basics such as bonuses for dominating a level in kills and/or time. It also has plenty of unlockable achievements that you can gather up if cyber attaboys are your game.

In summary, Enigmata is a cleanly designed game with plenty of playing time. The game features excellent music and the option to keep playing new levels after the campaign has been finished. Overall I rate the game a 7 out of 10.

Dragon Slayers 2 #3
Dragon Slayers 2 is similar to Dragon Slayers 1, but much improved. If you haven't had the opportunity of playing either, you're in luck. Dragon Slayers 2, created by ultimateflashgame, is a stick-man-kill-all-the-dragons type game that requires skill, cunning and charm. Well not technically, but there is a little bit of strategy involved. The game starts off with a primary stickman, you, at the trigger of an ancient ballista, and usually ends with you as either the victor, or you the loser, as dragons have destroyed your fortress. Basically you pull back and aim at all the cute little dragons coming to wipe you out and try to survive. Each level gradually gets a little harder, but you have the option each time to increase your fire power, defense, or food-gathering abilities. Oh, I forgot to mention, your city's inhabitants run on dragon meat, they love it! So getting a few extra laborers to fish out the dead dragon carcasses is a definite must to survival in addition to bolstering your defenses.

Dragon Slayers 2 is a fun game with plenty of opportunities to display your dragon-hating revenge. The downside is that it can be a little too challenging. Fortunately for those not gifted in mouse-clicking hax0ring, or Hannibal-like strategy abilities, there is an option to save your game before each new level.

For me personally, I'm looking forward to Dragon Slayers 3, with maybe some civilization increases (ha ha eat bazooka dragon!) or maybe some more ways to defeat the merciless dragon bosses. Overall, I rate this game an 8 out of 10.
