escent 3 is a mind-bending, desk gripping, grandma punching, epic title. Okay, so the makers of Descent do not condone violence to Me-mas, but you might consider becoming outraged if she schools you in the amazing deathmatch mode. Of course, if you're afraid of being whooped by your relatives or friends, you can try out Descent's traditional coop missions.
Descent 3 is the successor of Interplay's previous two titles, Descent I and II. The third title makes a comeback with majorly updated graphics, new robot blasting weapons, freedom-from-the-mine outside environments, and countless new enemies. This title not only makes the gamer's dream come true, but goes the extra mile in doing so.
Descent 3's campaign is healthily long and involved, maybe even on the complicated side at times, but is
fulfilling in the end. To top it off, there is also an expansion pack that adds a completely new campaign with new ships, maps and more. The music is
hauntingly beautiful and topical. New features are all the rage in this game including an internal guidebot (instead of shooting him out of a cage
somewhere, poor guy), mission objectives (instead of finding key after key...), and crazy locations including a prison and a subway station.
So why the fuss about an 11-year old game? This game, Descent 3, for one, has to be one of the greatest multiplayer games, whether coop or deathmatch, available. Sure there are many good titles that support these roles currently, but when you look at it, there aren't many simulator games, or shooter games for that matter, that meld together to create such a harmonious game. Another great reason is that this classic, and its expansion, are both available in the PC value bin on Goozex for a steal-able 100 points each!
So buy yourself a copy of Descent 3, and maybe one for your friend (or Nana perhaps?), and get into the action! Once you've done that, send a letter to Interplay begging them to release Descent 4, since you'll likely have thoroughly your brand new (oldish) game enough to want another one.
