Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Review

Overall Bad Company 2 was a bittersweet game for me. The campaign, my favorite part of every game, was very short. However, the multiplayer is something that will keep you hooked for a long time to come. Lets start at the beginning.

As I stated above, I love the campaigns of all good video games. Before I play the multiplayer, I must beat the campaign on the second-hardest difficulty at least once. For some games, I will beat the campaign multiple times on different difficulties. I even sometimes get most or even all of the trophies first. Well, I was disappointed to discover that BF:BC2 only has 13 levels and each can be beaten in around 15-20 minutes. Some less than 15, some more than 20, but most fall in that area. Overall, I would say this is a game where you could beat the entire campaign in one sitting depending on how much effort you put into it.

The trophies and achievements are pretty easy for the campaign. All you really have to do is beat the campaign on hard and medium ( That's right, both. It doesn't count as medium and easy being beaten if you beat the game on hard). I kind of wish it did. I, loving those campaigns and not wanting to see an emblem shaded in for medium and hard, but not easy, made me want to beat it three times in a couple of weeks. I did however get distracted by some trophies and wanted to take a break for the multiplayer for this review.

One thing I disliked about the campaign, other than its length, would be its transitions. It can go from 4:00 a.m. in pitch darkness, to complete daylight right before your very eyes in seconds. A good example of this is on the first level. Also, it can go from a beautiful, sunny day to a thunderstorm in seconds. Those transitions would be hard to pull off, but they really stand out. Another problem is your team. As great company as they are, they may as well be carrying bb guns. Although they will shoot and hit many enemies, they almost never die. However, you can take out the enemies with little effort.

The story is pretty basic, but fun nonetheless. It is the engine that separates this game from the rest. If it weren't for all of the destructible environments, Bad Company 2 would have little going for itself.
