One of the Great Developers of Yesteryear: Black Isle

Chris Nitz, Associate Writer

My name is Chris Nitz. I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I have lived in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Georgia, and now Missouri. Georgia is still one of the greatest states I have had the honor of living in. I have had the joy of working many roles in the IT industry. I am currently the sole IT person for a small Biodiesel/Soymeal production plant. I can't complain to much, but this is but a mere ruse till I can finally pursue my real passions of photography and gaming journalism. So until that happens, I get to enjoy the 1am tech support calls that consist of telling people to reboot their computers. It is not hard to be the IT god here in this one horse town.

I have been writing on and off for a few years. I have been writing about games consistently for the past three months. I started out on The Goozex Report. I have enjoyed every moment on this road.

So now we get to the good stuff. What three games are on my all time top three favorites? I am going old school here. Here we go.

Super Street Fighter (SNES)
The sole reason I got my Super Nintendo was to play Street Fighter. I played that game for hours on end with my friends. Super Street Fighter took this formula and added crack to it. Not only did this game consume hours of my life, but took away weekend sleep overs as bets were placed amongst my friends as to who could kick who's ass. I broke more controllers than I care to remember. I bought programable controllers so I could perform that damn pile-driver no matter where I was on the screen. Super Street Fighter 2 has led to my sheer enjoyment of Street Fighter IV today.

Half-Life (PC)
I had no idea what Half-Life was until I went over to my boss's house one day and he asked if I had heard of this game. After sitting at his computer for an hour, I promptly ran to Electronics Boutique (GameStop before it got so suck ass) and picked up a copy. This soon led to making maps and playing with my co-workers during our lunch breaks and planning out Friday night LAN parties. Nothing to date compares to calling my boss an ass due to his crazy headshot with a crossbow.

Dark Age of Camelot (PC)
While this MMO is long on the shelves of days passed, I owe a great many friendships to this game. This didn't make my top three for the gameplay or graphics, but for the bonds that were made during my time playing it. I met people from all over the world. I made friends who opened their doors to me when I travelled to their cities for work training. I learned that guild politics can be as simple as having to meet in town at a particular NPG to pose for a guild picture. The memories I have from that game still bring a big smile to my face. I spent many nights playing with these great people instead of getting the required amount of sleep I needed for work the next day.
