GoozerNation score (4 out of 5):
S targate Resistance is an online third person shooter game, which contains five different modes for play: Arena,
Conquest, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Tech, and King of the Hill. Each mode has different objectives, but the goal is ultimately the same: kill all
the bad guys and save the world. You see, the System Lords want to enslave all of humanity, which really isn't very friendly of them. Stargate Command
must defeat the System Lords and save humanity by--you guessed it--shooting everybody. Sweet!
Once you have chosen your character, game mode, and team to play on (you play on a team, with up to 16 players at a time) you get thrown right into the action. The lack of an in-game tutorial can make it difficult to just jump right in, as it takes a bit of time to get used to the weapons and characters, and what they can do. However, I found the community (even opposing players) to be very helpful and willing to answer any questions before they smoked me. Not to worry though. I just quickly respawned, giving them the opportunity to slay me over and over again. What can I say, I'm a giver. The controls are pretty standard for PC play, using W,A,S,D to move your character and the mouse to aim and shoot, so it should be pretty simple to pick up if you've played similar games. I found Stargate Resistance to be an engaging and fun multiplayer experience. The format makes it easy to both set up games with friends, or just drop right into an existing battle. I was concerned that there wouldn't be too much to offer a casual Stargate fan like myself, but the game has done a great job of providing exciting gameplay without requiring prior Stargate knowledge. The graphics were a personal favorite feature, because I feel that gaming is mainly a visual experience and quickly lose patience with games that haven't put any effort into making it all look good. The fact that there are no monthly fees after the initial purchase is also definitely a benefit, as is the fact that new content is released periodically. My main problem with the game was the lack of a tutorial, as having a bit more guidance in the beginning would have made it easier to pick up. I give Stargate Resistance a 4 out of 5, and recommend it to fans of first person shooters and, of course--Stargate superfans.
There are two sides available to play. If you are a Stargate fan, you already know these are Stargate Command and the System Lords. Each side consists of three characters to choose from. For Stargate Command, these are: Soldier, Scientist, and Commando. For the Sytem Lords, you can choose from: Jaffa, Ashrak, and Goa'uld. Each character has its own distinct weapons and weaknesses, much of which is based on Stargate SG-1. But don't worry, even non-Stargate fans will find this game interesting. The gameplay is fun and a bit addicting, as the ability to immediately respawn means you're never far away from the action. The temptation to own the fool who backstabbed me was unchecked as I headed right back in to find him again--only to be immediately pwned yet again. Ah, well--at least there's some great scenery to look at. The graphics are stunning, which visually enhances your play and gives those rabid Stargate fans a chance to be part of the Stargate world. Who wouldn't want to bust a cap in some fool in such a beautiful setting?
