Mother's Day is next Sunday, what are you getting your Mom? What?!? You forgot, didn't you? She suffered through *insert obscene amount of hours here* of childbirth to bring your sorry butt into the world, and you can't even remember to get her a little token of appreciation? She's your mom, she'll love you anyway--but seriously, dude--LAME!
Ah, well. All is not lost. There are still a few days left to salvage your reputation, and Averyzoe has the perfect gift ideas to turn "Why can't you be more like your brother?" into "Don't tell the others, but you were always my favorite." Some of you have mothers who are already gamers, and some of you just wish your mom would play games so she could understand where you're coming from/have something better to do than nag you. Either way, the Nintendo Ds has plenty of perfect titles to keep her smiling on her special day. If your mom doesn't have a Ds, you could go for the "Mommy's Little Angel Award" and get her one, or you can convince your dad to get her one, and snag her a few games to go with it.
Puzzle games are always a winner, and they are generally simple enough for even non-gamers to catch onto quickly. There are of course the classics like Tetris and Dr. Mario, and they are always a safe bet. But there are some other great puzzlers out there that should not be overlooked. The Quest Trio is currently selling for $12.99 on Amazon, and it contains three great games that your mom will love: Mahjong, Jewel Quest, and Jewel Quest Solitaire. These games are highly addicting and can even be played cooperatively--that counts as family time. Hello, brownie points! Bejeweled is one of the most popular puzzle games of all time, and the newest version--Bejeweled Twist--is selling for as little as $17.99 right now. Your mother washed your underwear for years--she's got to be worth all that and more! Again, the game is deceptively simple to begin with, and incredibly hard to put down. "Just fix yourself a sandwich sweetie--Mama's got to get her game on."
There are also plenty of "Personal Trainer" games out for the Ds right now, so if your mom is the self-help type, there's bound to be a game for that. If she wants to learn new cooking techniques (or you just want her to) pick up Personal Trainer Cooking. Trying to quit smoking/learn yoga/get fit/speak Chinese? There are games for all of those and more for less than $20 new. Sweet!
There are also a ton of Mom-friendly console games on the market. If your Mom is the "Let's all play together type," first of all--sorry. Second, you're in luck, because there are all kinds of games on the market for family gaming night, and only some of them cost a fortune. If you totally love your mom way more than everybody else, then you've got to spring for Rock Band. The whole family can play together, and if your mom is just no good at button-mashing you can hand her the microphone and let her wail. Best part: the music totally does not suck, so you'll love it too. It's like buying yourself a present for Mother's Day, but without all the tears and recriminations that normally accompany that.
The Buzz Quiz series of games are also fun for a family. The first title will cost you a bit, because they come with specialized controllers to help you ring in your answers. Fork out a little extra now, and you can buy her Buzz Quiz titles on the cheap for every other holiday. Aren't you thoughtful? If you think quiz games are lame, or just can't drop that much cash right now--check out some of the cool titles on the Wii. Compete against each other on any number of WiiSports games ($15 & up), lay the smack down on the whole family--except Mom, of course--on Super Smash Bros. ($45), or laugh till you cry watching your dad get his groove on with Just Dance ($27.99). Trust me--it will be worth every penny in comic relief alone.
So what are you waiting for? Get off your butt and get your mom a sweet gaming gift for Mother's Day. She's worth it, and if you play your cards right, she might just let you borrow it.
