hat could be more fun than a game where you can wake up, turn off your alarm, get ready for work, and head off in bumper-to-bumper traffic to your lonely cubicle amidst rows upon rows of other cubicles. It's positively addicti. . .Hey! Wait a minute! I already do that. Clever.
In a game that's bigger on social commentary than actual gameplay, Every Day The Same Dream is exactly what it sounds. You are one faceless schmo among many; living the American dream. In between the getting ready and commuting, you do fun tasks like turn off the TV and be scolded by both your wife AND boss for being late. After you finally reach your indistinct cubicle hidden among endless rows of identical cubicles, you sit down and get to work, only to discover that another day has dawned. . .exactly the same as the previous. Yes, you can get up, put on that suit, and head out to your sensible car once more--just like real life. Oh MY God! Life has no meaning beyond the nondescript walls! I am a hamster, stuck in a ball! Save me, hamster buddies! I MUST ESCAPE!
Ahem. . .Where was I? Oh, yes, Every Day The Same Dream. See, the problem with people like me playing games like this is that it is never enough to just say "Hey! That's a clever little commentary on how our lives dissolve into a monotonous chain with nothing to distinguish one day from the next." Nope, people like me say, "Dude, what if I *don't* sit down in that cubicle? What if I reject you and you're silly expectations of productivity and check out what's over here?" (People like me also say "Ooohh, cake!" a lot, but I digress.) Some cubicle minion I'd make--I only lasted two days before I just had to find a way out. And find it I did. Let me just see what's over here. Oh, look, it's freedom. Aaaaaahhhhhhh!
According to the web site, Every Day The Same Dream was created by Molleindustria (music by Jesse Stiles) " in 6 days for the Experimental Gameplay Project." While it is a clever concept and executed well, it is not a game you will find yourself playing over and over again. There just isn't a lot of actual gameplay involved--and besides--who wants to be reminded that their daily life is a never-ending cycle of mediocrity and despair? Tres depressing. So check out Every Day The Same Dream to relieve the monotony of your day by living the monotony of a faceless everyman. . .monotonously.
