Dragon Fable Review

This morning I asked my sons (who are 8 and 11), "What's a good free online game?" Children tend to know the answers to these types of things, as they don't have much in the way of jobs and responsibilities. Sure enough, they immediately answered, "DragonFable." I asked them to give me the rundown on this apparently popular game.

DragonFable (21K) Me : So what do you do in DragonFable?

Da Boyz: You go around doing quests, like defeating monsters. Your mission is to find a special dragon egg that would save the world. You level up after gaining experience, and after each level up you can buy more weapons and gain life, mana, and stat training points. Stat training allows you to get better at fighting, using weapons, and training pets. All weapons have elements, such as water, metal, earth, fire, etc. Your goal is to have the hugest dragon and be as massively awesome as possible. To do this, you must purchase the Dragon Amulet, which allows your dragon to grow.

Me: What makes DragonFable so fun?

Da Boyz: You can do anything you want, and the other characters are funny. For example, one of the secret elements you have to uncover is called bacon, and one of the gods in the story is a chicken/cow named Zeuster.

Me: Who would you recommend this game to?

Da Boyz: People who like role-playing games, or are interested in stories about things like dragons and knights.

Me: Thanks for the help boys! Now go clean some toilets or something.

DragonFable is an online game from BattleOn! Games. They describe it as an an "animated fantasy RPG." You cannot interact with other players within the games, but the creators do take suggestions from players, and use these to add new content every week. The game is completely free, but you are given the option to support the developers if you desire. Doing so (for $19.99) gives you a special Dragon Amulet that unlocks some exclusive content. However, the game is completely playable and fun without upgrading, so don't worry fellow cheapskates, your wallet is safe.
