iPhone Lost--Gizmodo Reporter Has Computers Seized

The Sheer Power That is Amy

April 26, 2010

Apparently Apple is a tad bit upset about this whole iphone lost episode. As many of you know, a prototype of the next iphone was recently lost in a bar. This prototype was then purchased by Jason Chen at popular website Gizmodo. Apple wants their phone back, and apparently they aren't going to let a little thing like legal precedent slow them down.

According to Gizmodo, last Friday while Jason Chen and his wife were out to dinner, police broke down his door to serve a warrant signed by a judge of the Superior Court of San Mateo. The police confiscated a total of four computers and two servers.

What makes this more interesting is that, according to Chen's lawyer, this warrant is invalid and the police were informed of this at the scene yet chose to continue with the seizure.

Gaby Darbyshire, COO and legal representative for Gawker Media, L.L.C. states that "under both state and federal law, a search warrant may not be validly issued to confiscate the property of a journalist." Ms. Darbyshire has questioned the police's actions in this case, but as yet there has been no response.
